What is a Captive Portal

A captive portal is a web page that users see before they can access a Wi-Fi network. Some also call it a login page or a user authentication portal. The main goal of a captive portal is to authenticate the user in order to grant them access to your Wi-Fi network.

The most common interactions seen on captive portals are the acceptance of terms of use and privacy policy, asking for email address or other personal information in exchange of the service or a payment in order to access a paid Wi-Fi service, in a hotel or a hospital, for example.
