What is Wi-Fi Infrastructure

Wi-Fi infrastructure is the infrastructure required to grant Wi-Fi access to guests, employees, customers, students or partners. Wi-Fi infrastructure may consist of all or some of the following elements:

  • Access points, repeaters, extenders
  • Controllers
  • Switches
  • Hubs
  • Gateways
  • Cables, racks, A/C, etc.

Companies tend to outsource their Wi-Fi infrastructure management to specialists for various reasons. The biggest advantages are cost reduction and freeing up resources around maintaining and supporting hardware, equipment updates and providing support to end users. The hardware is then hosted by a service provider who manages all the IT infrastructure behind it.
